Welcome!
As July comes to a close, we’re reminded of how powerful
each experience, whether inside the classroom or out in
the community ,can be in shaping confidence, connection,
and independence. The heart of The Novo Experience has
always been rooted in meaningful engagement, and this
past month was no exception.
From self-expression in the arts to science in the great
outdoors, from real-world learning opportunities to
important conversations around wellness, our students
continue to show up with curiosity, openness, and a
willingness to grow. Their dedication inspires everything we
do.
This issue captures just a glimpse of what made July so
impactful. You’ll read about the lessons learned, the
adventures taken, and the relationships strengthened.
We’re also highlighting some of the incredible
collaborations that made these moments possible,
because behind every experience is a community of
supporters helping it take shape.
With August on the horizon, we’re excited for what’s next:
new classes, new ideas, and more opportunities to help
individuals step into their potential.
Whether you’re a student, a family member, a community
partner, or a supporter, we’re so grateful you’re part of
this journey.
Let’s keep building, growing, and exploring, together.
THE NOVO EXPERIENCE

Riddle of the Month
I SPARKLE AT NIGHT BUT I’M NOT A
STAR,
YOU’LL HEAR A BIG BOOM FROM
WHERE YOU ARE.
I COME IN RED, WHITE, AND
SOMETIMES BLUE,
LIGHTING UP THE SKY FOR YOU!

JULY HIGHLIGHTS AT THE
NOVO EXPERIENCE
July was a month full of learning, growth, and real-world
connection across our programs.
In Theater Exploration, students attended Pretty
Woman live on stage. Leading up to the show, we
explored character arcs, compared the film and stage
adaptation, and discussed how storytelling shifts across
mediums. Post-performance, the group reflected on
staging, tone, and performance choices, enhancing their
appreciation for live theater.
Our Dragon Fist MMA self-defense workshop continued
with a strong focus on physical technique, situational
awareness, and the mental discipline needed to feel
confident and in control.
We also launched our new Applied Environmental Science:
Long Island Edition course. Learners explored local
ecosystems, sustainability, and conservation, then
applied that knowledge through nature journaling and
guided hikes on Long Island trails, connecting classroom
learning with outdoor exploration.
In Passport to Culture, we concluded our study of France
by examining traditions, customs, and art, then
celebrated with a visit to an authentic French restaurant
for a cultural immersion experience.
Fun fact: France has more Michelin-starred restaurants
than any other country!
We hosted a SNAP-Ed workshop focused on how nutrition
affects energy, mood, and overall health. Attendees
learned practical tools for making informed food choices
and improving daily habits.
In Mindfulness and Stress Management, we explored
strategies for regulating the nervous system using
breathwork, grounding, and coping techniques. Our
upcoming session will shift to the mind-gut connection,
with a focus on how nutrition impacts brain function,
stress levels, and emotional wellness.
We’re proud of everyone who showed up, tried new
things, and continued to grow. August is shaping up to
be just as exciting!

Looking Ahead: What’s Coming in August
We’re kicking off August with our first-ever day trip class: Coastal Studies & Community
Exploration!
Students will board the ferry to beautiful Mystic, Connecticut, where we’ll dive into
marine science with a guided educational tour of the Mystic Aquarium. This immersive
experience blends environmental science, coastal ecosystems, and local history, all in
one unforgettable adventure.
This month, we’re also excited to attend the Retro Gaming Convention, offering a fun and
interactive dive into gaming history and technology. Plus, our Theater Exploration class
will be experiencing the magic of live performance again with a trip to see Phantom of the
Opera, an incredible opportunity to engage with storytelling on stage.
We’re finishing up enrollment for our second semester of the Dating with Confidence
Workshop, a unique opportunity for young adults to build meaningful connections and
explore healthy relationship skills in a supportive, inclusive setting. Only 5 spots remain,
and registration closes August 28th, so don’t wait!
Behind the scenes, we’re hard at work finalizing our September schedule, including brand
new classes, exciting events, and fresh community partnerships we can’t wait to share.
Applications also open this month for our two new internship tracks: Research &
Development and Digital Marketing. These hands-on programs are perfect for anyone
looking to build real-world experience in a supportive environment.
